September 2024
Dear Parents/Carers,
I would like to wish you and your children a very warm welcome back after the summer holidays. I hope you and your families had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break, ready for the upcoming academic year. Year 6 is a very exciting year and there are many enjoyable activities to look forward to.
We have begun our year reading 'War Horse' during English lessons. This is in preperation for our upcoming visit to The Lowry to watch the Nationsl Theatre production on Thursday 19th September. So far, the
PE will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. PE kits are required to be in school and stay in school throughout the term. Please ensure that all items of school uniform are labelled with your child’s name.childrem seem to have really taken to the book and are excited to know the fate of 'Joey' the central character.
From speaking to the class it is very apparent that the children are looking forward to our class residential to Robinwood. This educational visit is scheduled for November 20th 21st and 22nd. You will have received information about Robinwood previously, with more to come nearer the time.
A letter has gone out recently regarding 'Young Voices' a performance at Co-op Live Manchester. I strongly encourage Year 6 children to grasp this opportunity, as it is unlikely to be something they will once they have left primary school.
PE will usually take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. PE kits are required to be in school and stay in school throughout the term. Please ensure that all items of school uniform are labelled with your child's name.
As you will be aware, reading is a vital element of the primary curriculum and it is the school’s aim to promote a love of books and literature. With that in mind, time each week will be dedicated to reading for pleasure. Therefore, children are welcome and encouraged to bring a book in from home or to borrow one from the school library (that will stay in school until it is finished) to read purely for pleasure.
Homework will be set online each week. I will explain more about this during the ‘meet the teacher’ sessions next week..
Spelling tests will take place on a Thursday. Spelling lists will be sent home in paper form around the start of each half term In addition, some half terms will include children given a project to complete linked to topics we are doing in class (e.g. South America, Christmas Business Enterprise, WW2 in Eccles).
Learning plans, spellings and project information will be uploaded onto the school website.
Each day children need a coat, water bottle and book bag. Children can also bring a healthy snack for breaktime if they wish. Unfortunately, large bags are not permitted as we simply do not have the cloakroom space to store them.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child, please feel free to contact me via the school office and I will contact you as soon as possible
I look forward to meeting many of you next week at the ‘meet the teacher’ session.
God bless,
Mr Webster
