                                                                                         September 2024

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have had a lovely, fun summer!  I am Miss McNally your child's new class teacher.  There are lots of exciting things happening in Year 4 and there are many planned enjoyable activities to look forward to. I am looking forward to the year ahead and hope that they are excited to start in Year 4 and have an exciting challenging and successful year.  This letter will outline some of the key information about Year 4.

Ukulele

In Year 4, your child will be given the fantastic opportunity to learn to play the ukulele in lessons which will occur every ywo weeks.  These lessons will occur on a Wednesday and begin from the second Wednesday of school starting.

Swimming and PE

Monday mornings are all children's swimming slot.  Please ensure that your child brings a swimming costume or trunks, a towel and a swimming hat with them. All children must wear a swimming hhat and please also remember to send your child in with a coat, even if the weather looks fine in the morning.

On Tuesday mornings, the children will have PE for an hour.  PE kits can stay in school until the half term holidays.  Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school for these lessons each week.

Reading

Reading books can be swapped once your child has completed their book.  Please ensure that once your child has finished their reading book and an adult at home has signed their reading diaty to confirm they have read it, that they bring this book back in school and it will be swapped for a new one.

Homework

Weekly maths homework is set online on classroom secrets and is set on a Monday; this should be completed by the following Monday to help to consolidate any new learning from that week.  As the children will all complete a national times tables test at the end of the year in June, it is important that they also get regular pratice using TT Rockstars account at home, as well as in school.  Further information will be sent out on this test and the children will also be sent home with their log-ins.

There will be a times tables and spelling test on Friday mornings and children will be given spellings(on spider app and the school website) for the term. Children will also be told each week which times tables they need to learn.

Each half term children will be given a project linked to their geography or history topics.  Learning plans, spellings and project information will be sent out on school spider app.

Arriving at school and end of the day

Children should be in school for 8.45am to ensure that they can settle in and do not miss any starter tasks for the day.  Please be aware that the school gates are opened at 8.45am

It is essential that if tour child is being collected b y another adult other than the usual person who collects them from school that we are let know in the morning or that the office is phoned to let us know of any changes, otherwise we are unable to send a child home until we have contacted parents/carers to confirm.

Each day children need a coat, water bottle and book bag.  Unfortunately, large bags are not permitted due to having limited space to store these.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or talk to me at the end of the day, alternatively, appointments can be made at the office.

I am very much looking forward to working with you to ensure a fun and successful year.

Kind regards,

Miss McNally
